FBI Headquarters Quantico, VA

Special Agent Monique “Nikki” Ruthanne Sebastian sat at her desk pondering the assignment she just received from her Special Agent in Charge. Nikki is 37 years old, single, 5’ 5 “ with an athletic build. She has a natural classic beauty and doesn’t normally wear much makeup. She has an olive skin tone and chocolate brown hair reaching the bottom of her breasts. She wears her hair in natural spiral curls and only pins back behind her ears when working on a serious case. She has intense green eyes that pop through her long natural eyelashes. Her appearance and dress are always immaculate. Nicki graduated top of her class at Virginia Tech with dual degrees in Criminology and Psychology which made a perfect fit for the BAU. She spent the previous night reading Road Rage, the Blog to get up to speed on the case and she was reflecting on the next steps in her investigation. Nicki has been with the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI for the last 9 years and she has a reputation of being able to get into the psyche of a serial killer and she has a stellar close rate on her cases. She was given the Road Rage assignment to work as she is able around her normal casework until something more substantial develops that would require more of the Bureau’s resources. At this point, there has been no actual known crime and that is where she is beginning. Nikki already had some notes on Simon; he was likely at least 40 due to the population reference, obviously intelligent and familiar with forensics and police procedures. Some of his references are possibly military or even law enforcement. If his claims are true, it is a very good strategy to pick his targets randomly and if he is indeed operating in multiple jurisdictions he will be very difficult if not impossible to track. The Cyber techs are working to unravel his IP address and thus far they have followed the path around the world that Simon had outlined so at least his claims of his cyber prowess seem to be at least partially true. That is unfortunate and will definitely make him harder to track.

Nikki ran Gordon Peterson through the missing person databases in every state and came back with 3 possible matches. 2 of them fall within the correct timeline so she requested case files from both jurisdictions to see what information she can compile and see if there is any possibility that one of these is a potential match. The problem is that Nikki has no information on the possible victim other than a name, no age, description, state, anything. The first Gordon Peterson is 49,, 5’ 11” 220 lbs, green eyes, brown hair, wears corrective lenses, and is a resident of San Diego, CA. Gordon was reported missing on November 1st by his ex-wife when he failed to pick up their 2 children for his visitation weekend. No outstanding warrants and no criminal history. Local police investigated and found his 2014 Volkswagen Jetta parked in his garage at home. He also has a boat registered in his name and the local law enforcement confirmed that it is accounted for in its slip as normal. No sign of forced entry into his home or vehicle and no prints other than the owner’s on either. There has been no activity on Gordon’s bank account or credit cards. Cursory review of his financials reveal nothing noteworthy.

The second Gordon Peterson is 34, 6’ 0”, 195, blue eyes and black hair and is a resident of Atlanta, GA. Gordon was reported missing on November 9th by his employer when he failed to report to work and one of his co-workers found his Jeep Wrangler was still parked in the employer’s parking lot from the previous week. No prints were found on the car, no sign of forced entry. This Gordon had 2 misdemeanors for assault in the last 5 years. As with Gordon number 1, no activity on any of his accounts or cards and nothing noteworthy in his financials. The blog had mentioned a Jeep so Nikki was fairly certain this was the missing Gordon, but she will cover all bases, this is the FBI after all.

Nikki opened internal cases on both Gordon’s and sent requests to the San Diego and Atlanta field offices to have agents interview family, friends, and associates to see if they could shed any light on the type of personalities of both possible suspects. Nikki found that the unsub (unknown subject) has a very certain type of victims he targets and at this point, that is about the only thing they have to go on. Nikki thought about trying to engage Simon through the blog, but she wanted more information before she went down that road because she likely would only get one chance to draw Simon out to engage him. She began a search to see if there are reports of anyone falling to their death in a commercial building anywhere in the country yesterday, that should be easy.
